Part-Time Game Developer Boot Camp

“Thorough, Supportive, and Got Me a Job”

I went into the Game Developer Bootcamp specifically with the goal of getting hired. The help of the job placement staff combined with the experience gained in the live project internships was enough to land me 5 interviews and a job out of 187 applications…. Read More

You learn the fundamentals of software development and programming, you learn to make games, and you get hands-on experience building games in the live project. But from my experience, this boot camp was worth it for the job placement alone. Being completely honest, you are at a SEVERE disadvantage applying for jobs compared to someone graduating from this boot camp. They teach you how to interview, apply, where to look, how to portray your skills, how to build a portfolio, a resume, and what to expect. Not to mention, they have companies reaching out to the Tech Academy that are looking for graduates to employ. That bit of networking alone helps with finding employment after graduation. Sure you can do some of that stuff yourself, but who do you turn to when you’re still unemployed? When you graduate from The Tech Academy you are connected with job placement staff to help you on your job search for a year. I recommend taking advantage of this. Do mock interviews with them, drill concepts, and keep in touch. Get as much information as you can from them. They are going to help you prepare for job-specific interviews, avoid pitfalls / scams, and re-strategize if you’re struggling. Mine reached out to me twice a week, every week to check in on progress and help with finding new opportunities.

Edit: Adding some full disclosure here for the Game Developer Bootcamp particularly after reading some other reviews. As of my time, (graduated Nov 2024) you will be following some courses that are external to The Tech Academy. This was fully communicated with me before enrolling in the bootcamp and wasn’t a surprise. If it hadn’t been communicated I might have felt differently about it, but they were transparent. These courses were on Pluralsight and some on Udemy. The courses walk you through how to use Unity & Unreal Engine by making games that you will put on your portfolio. Any problems or trouble understanding something from these external sources were compensated with explanation from a Tech Academy instructor.

If you think you are better off following course tutorials online then go do it. However, from my experience attempting to follow online tutorials is that you will eventually get stuck or get to a point where it’s over your head. Then what do you do? Endless google searches? Forum scrolling until you get overwhelmed and give up? Leave a comment on the course and hope the instructor is still answering questions? Maybe the tutorial is outdated. Maybe the version the course is using is no longer supported. Or maybe you encounter a bug that the guy in the video doesn’t. Every one of these things has happened to me. The difference here is that you have a team of people that are standing by, ready to answer every question in a way that makes sense to you. When you get stuck, somebody is there. That was worth it enough for me.

If you are able to answer all of your questions, debug every situation you find yourself in without asking for help, and understand the decision making of concepts in videos, then you probably are well beyond the scope of what this bootcamp has to offer you. Just my 2 pennies.

Front-End Web Developer Boot Camp

“Great for beginners”

I thought the Frontend Web Developer course was good overall. It was easy for beginners to understand without seeming off-putting to people who would be taking it as a refresher course. The staff is friendly and helpful. There were a couple of pages that… Read More need updates, but staff is very receptive to people flagging issues. I just graduated, so I can’t speak to job placement, but I can say they are very upfront about the difficulties in breaking into tech and layout the expectations. Overall, this is the kind of course that you get out of it what you put into it. If you do not thrive in an online learning environment or going at your own pace, this is not the program for you. If you can managing yourself, I highly recommend this.

“Waste of Money”

To start this company manipulated Google’s search engine to keep Google Reviews from populating. Look up other coding boot camps and you’ll see they have Google reviews this company does not and for good reason. They have a program that gives you the… Read More bare minimum and is a lot of copying code already written. They spend very little to no time teaching debugging skills and if you can’t get a job in tech upon completion, they offer you a “teaching” job with them that can best be compared to indentured work where you make little to no money and continue to pay them for their subscription model for “continuing education”. They also offer you an Amazon gift card if you write and leave 5 star reviews on sites like this. They final thing I don’t appreciate about this program is they have “resume workshops” where they force you to manipulate and lie on your résumé to trick companies into interviewing and hiring. Would not recommend and wish I could get my money back.

Full-Time Data Science Boot Camp

“Good Data Science Program”

From March through June 2024, I attended The Tech Academy’s Data Science program. I found the program to be affordable when compared to other boot camps in my area, and the curriculum could be completed remotely with a self-paced schedule, which was why… Read More I chose it. The courses, which I was able to finish in around three months of full-time study, covered basic computer programming and hardware, project management, and a range of data science and analysis techniques. After that, I completed a two-week internship working as a junior data scientist in an Agile sprint framework, mentored by a very knowledgeable and helpful senior developer, and in doing so built up a good portfolio of data analysis work to present to employers. Then I was enrolled into a job placement course with a dedicated job placement director who also did a fantastic job and worked very hard to improve my resume, GitHub profile/portfolio, cover letter, and interview skills. Once I had finished with the curriculum and graduated, I was job hunting in a really terrible market – in spring and summer 2024 there was a huge wave of layoffs in the tech industry including high-profile companies such as Intel and Google, so the tech industry was flooded with extremely knowledgeable and experienced people, and few companies were hiring. TTA kindly served as a reference for my data analysis skills and the experience I gained in my internship, and my job placement director stuck around to help me out with resume and cover letter touch-ups, passing along openings, and practice interviews the whole time. After four months of job hunting, I received an offer in the data analysis field and am very happy with my experience.

Full-Time Cyber Security Boot Camp

“Strong Coding Foundations with Some Room for Improvement in Cybersecurity Training”

I recently completed a cybersecurity bootcamp, and while the overall experience was positive, there were some challenges along the way. At the start of the program, instructor support was fantastic, with quick help available just a phone call away. Midway… Read More through, however, the support system shifted to email-based assistance, which led to longer wait times—sometimes over an hour. This change made it harder to make the most of my study time and created some frustration, though the instructors remained helpful once I could get in touch with them. Thankfully, this was not an issue during the Live Project, where the director was very accessible and provided great support.

On the coding side, the program was very hands-on, giving me plenty of opportunities to practice and build a strong foundation in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL. The projects really helped cement my understanding and prepared me well for real-world applications. In contrast, the cybersecurity portion had fewer hands-on exercises. Although the videos on front-end security, cloud security, and network security were informative, practical experience with tools like Wireshark was limited. I didn’t get to use Wireshark until the very last live project, and I think earlier exposure to such tools would have been more beneficial.

That being said, the job placement support was a real highlight. I received excellent guidance with resume reviews, interview prep, and job search strategies, which made me feel much more confident as I began applying for roles in the tech industry. Overall, while I would have appreciated more hands-on cybersecurity training and more consistent support, the bootcamp provided a solid foundation and helpful resources for transitioning into tech.

“The Tech Academy”

I have a hardware (mechanical/electronic) background, but didn’t know anything about the software business. Since nobody of my friends were in that field I had to do myself the research.
I came across The Tech Academy and found my luck with it. My online… Read More research brought up only positive things about it.
Once I started the course “Software Developer” I suddenly found myself sitting on a mountain of “fillers”, explaining the nuts & bolts of computer programming. Since I was familiar with many of them, first it was boring for me, but later realized their values.
The Study Material is very well organized, first the easy, simple staff is coming and later the more difficult and complicated.
The “fillers” served me very well, saved me a lot of time and afford: not to search for simple words, expressions or for different methods.
The videos are phenomenal thanks to Mr. Erik Gross. They provide simple explanations for complicated procedures and worth to watch them more, than once.
I am very grateful for the people at The Tech Academy, they were very helpful not just during my study, but in the job finding process too.

“Cybersecurity Boot Camp at Tech Academy”

After enrolling in Tech Academy’s Cybersecurity Boot Camp, I have been astounded by the program’s effectiveness. I’m a recent graduate of the Cyber Security Boot Camp, and I’ve been very happy with what I’ve learned so far! I’m new to the industry, and the course starts off assuming you know very little about computers. This builds on itself, and soon you see yourself… Read More creating websites, building databases, learning about networks, and of course you get to work with some great Cyber Security tools. The Live Course at the end gives you practical experience in the work of Cyber Security, and the Job Placement module was very helpful in creating tech-oriented resumes and navigating a unique interview process.
