“Good content, poor result”

I did the Full Stack Web Developer bootcamp, 5 months remote in English, from Sept ’21 to Feb ’22. We were a group of 10 students with one teacher. Additionally to the course itself, we were promised a lot of coding exercises, including concrete projects… Read More and some hackathons. The final project would be a real one with a company and the school announced more than 90% of hiring success after the bootcamp. The beginning was very promising with a lot of content and quite intense. After 2 months approx., it slowed down, but that was ok. What really disappointed me was to realize at the end of the training that we were still unable to design a real and functional web application, not even the most successful students of the group. We learnt the basics that would permit us to integrate an existing team with a good coaching capacity, but not more (and I was far to be the weakest in the group). Also, the final project was interesting as such, but the company behind it resulted not very supportive and despite their promise for at least one job after the bootcamp, we never heard from it afterwards. After the bootcamp had finished, we were left alone. A few students had managed an internship and for some of them, it converted into a real job later, but many of us ended up the bootcamp with no opportunity. I eventually resumed with my previous profession and I found very deceptive the nonexistent support from the school for their former students. For those having no concrete opportunity, the school could have easily put in place a platform so they could develop their own projects and keep learning with the ad-hoc support from the school. But nothing of that kind was designed. Actually Wild Code School is a very French oriented one, and their network with the private sector was mostly limited to French companies offering in site opportunities in France. To be also mentioned that Wild Code School had a very high turn over among its staff, which indicated a serious issue with their internal business… Considering that we paid about 5’000€ each, for a group of 10 students with one full time teacher, I consider that this bootcamp was not worth the investment at all… at least from the students’ perspective. To be noted that the teacher was very good and nothing against him really!

“Highly recommend Wild Code School.”

Highly recommend WCS. I was able to learn different skills (soft and technical) and at the end finally got a job. The course is very intensive but it will worth all the sweat. The curriculum is complete and updated to the reality of the companies. All… Read More projects will help on the learning process and and at the end you will be ready to start work.

“Nice bootcamp for Data Analysts”

It was a very nice experience to study with Wild Code School Lisbon campus. Our course was hybrid, meaning some students were on site, some were joining remotely (myself participated remotely). The teacher (Cristina Zapullo) managed this situation very… Read More well, regularly checked-in for remote students to be updated about their progress, challenges, etc. Campus manager (Nuno Bento) was also very available and he was supportive in finding solutions for any issue may arised. The curriculum was well-structured, the different parts were built-on each other in a logical order. I appreciated, that there were some differences in the teaching material, some with more video, some with more examples, etc. so we could see different approaches. The final client project was also well chosen, we needed to well combine both technical and soft skills, learnt during the course.

“Worth it”

I have attended the 5 months full stack web development remote bootcamp with WCS and it was totally worth it! What’s nice about this bootcamp is that you get to work on real projects and even on a real client project. At the end, you will have a portfolio… Read More of projects to showcase to potential employers plus experience in working in a team (something that most of the other bootcamps overlook). This bootcamp is 5 months long, which gives you enough time to digest all the new information that they teach you, unlike other 2-3 month long bootcamps that are rushing through the curriculum and you end up even more confused than you initially were. Sure, there are a lot of excellent free resources out there to help you learn how to code on your own but the difference is that this bootcamp gives you hands on experience and career guidance too. In other words, you will be fully prepared for a junior developer position after this course. I have found my first job as a developer one month after completion of the course and some of my fellow bootcampers found a job even quicker. However, if you are a complete beginner you will probably have a hard time keeping up with the amount of information you are going to learn so my advice is to study a bit of html, css and js before you join, it will make your life so much easier.

“Do not pay for this!”

I was a student at WCS and didnt like it at all!! Its a waste of time and money in my opinion (IMO). The best thing i took from this experience was that (a) i wont ever again pay to study (unless my employer requires it), and (b) i dont like how the standard… Read More IT companies work, but even that you can search and find on the web – just like it is! With 4000-5000 euros you can do WAYYYYY more than what you will get after your bootcamp at WCS, IMO. For instance, you could take online courses (way cheaper than popular / expensive bootcamps) at your own pace via 1 – https://www.freecodecamp.org 2 – https://www.skillshare.com 3 – https://www.udemy.com 4 – https://teachlr.com 5 – https://www.tutellus.com 6 – https://www.floqq.com (just to mention a few) If you are joining an in-person bootcamp cause you wanna hang out with some people, you dont need to pay 4000-5000 for that. Just contact your friends and/or use social media to gather a bunch of people who´d like to join you on some online learning journey 🙂 Also, if you are taking the bootcamp because of the final certificate, it wont be necessary at all to get a job – virtually all employers will make you some quick tests to attest your knowledge before you get hired. Moreover, many online courses also grant certificates. And believe me, by taking your own learning path instead of enrolling in an expensive bootcamp you would save enough money for a 1-3 week awesome vacation in some of your favorite destinations. Feel free to contact me if you want further personal views on WCS/coding bootcamps and the IT world. I speak ENGLISH, SPANISH and PORTUGUESE.
